Activities At South Hill Centre

South Hill Centre, in partnership with South Hill Church, run a number of activities / courses and events for people in the local community.

SHC also works with a number of local organisations to host courses and events which fall within the remit of the Centre’s community objectives. Details of current offerings and information on how to join in can be found below:

 

Hemel Hempstead Employabilty & Wellbeing Hub

What is it and who is it for?

A free drop-in support group run by South Hill Centre, in partnership with Dacorum Healthy hub, for anyone in Dacorum who is unemployed, under-employed, threatened with redundancy or starting themselves up in self-employment.

The group offers:
- Free access to PCs, stationary, printing, etc.
- Job search assistance
- Mentoring and assistance to complete job applications
- Training advice and signposting
- Individual CV and specimen application letter creation
- Peer review, encouragement and support
- Business start up advice and support
- Confidence and Personal Development
- Support in overcoming barriers to learning and/or employment
- Links to other voluntary organisations and voluntary work opportunities
- Free refreshments and a warm welcome

When does it meet?

The main 'Employment support HUB' drop in sessions are held every Tuesday 10am-3pm and Friday from 10am-3pm with additional smaller hub sessions held at other times as dictated by the needs of the local community and project participants.

Additional on-going 1-1 support, working with other local specialist wellbeing and employability providers, can also be offered.

Discussion of these opinions is intended to build the confidence, self esteem and knowledge of members, enabling them, as individuals, to make sound judgements and decisions about their personal future.
All members of South Hill Centre are committed to respecting the confidentiality of individuals. Any personal issues raised and discussed during group activities will remain confidential to those participating.

 

SHC International

A drop in for anyone from a non UK origin who needs help and support.

The group offers:
- A warm space, a friendly welcome and refreshments
- Job search assistance
- Training advice and signposting
- Peer review, encouragement and support
- Help with English
- Support in overcoming barriers to learning and/or employment
- Links to other voluntary organisations who support refugees/asylum seekers

Sessions are held every Tuesday 1pm-3pm

SHC Gets Active

Promoting both physical and mental wellbeing, this activity. This activity is free to all who wish to come along.

Sessions are held in the Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre sports hall, every Friday 2pm-3pm. Individuals meet at SHC at 1.30pm and walk to the leisure centre together for an active hour offering participation in a range of sports and activities. Sessions are part coached and part free-play activities. Every participant is offered a free swim at the leisure centre as a thank you for their engagement.

Young Discoverers Pre-School - Monday to Friday

Young Discoverers Pre-school, based in our purpose-built Early Years Centre, provides a first-class learning experience for young children before they attend school.
It provides ten weekly sessions during term time  for children from two and half years to rising fives.

Squealers Toddler Group - Wednesdays - 9.30-11.30am

Squealers Parent/Carer and toddler group is held on a Wednesday morning during term time. It is for children up to three years old.

Squealers provide a safe, stimulating environment where children can play and parent/carers can relax and make friends.

It also provides opportunity for our committed team to draw alongside and provide encouragement, care and support. Regular activities include singing with the children and craft. Refreshments and coffee are provided during the session.

Table Talk - Thursdays (monthly) - 12.00-3.30 pm

Table Talk is based in our coffee lounge. It meets on the first Thursday of each month. It is largely for senior citizens and is held from 1pm until 3.30pm. There is a rolling programme which provides an opportunity to get together with friends and enjoy good food and entertainment.

Compass Kids - Monday 5.30-7.00 pm

This is a Monday evening junior youth club for 7-11 year olds. It provides a great space for table top Wii, table tennis, air hockey, craft and cooking.
