Mayor of Dacorum visits ‘SHC International’

On 23rd April South Hill Centre (SHC) received an impromptu visit from the current Mayor of Dacorum, Cllr. William Allen.

During his visit he was shown some of the great work that South Hill Centre and its partners are doing to support refugees and asylum seekers in the town. Cllr Allen commented “ I have run out of superlatives to describe what I am seeing” as he commended the work that the team at South Hill Centre are doing. 80-100 refugees/asylum seekers were in attendance at the session that day.

‘SHC International’ is a focussed activity that supports anyone with international heritage, including current Asylum Seekers and Refugees. It runs between 1pm and 3pm every Tuesday and is supported by a multitude of organisations and agencies who can offer help and support. These include (amongst others) Herts Welcomes Refugees, who provide specific ESOL (English) provision to asylum seekers; Herts MIND Network (Flourish Programme) who provide wellbeing support (particularly for the Ukrainian community) and Dacorum Borough Council (DBC) Housing team, who provide housing advise and support to those receiving ‘leave to remain’ decision letters from the Home Office.
