Christmas carol singing events

Due to COVID restrictions we had to scale back our Christmas Carol service plans slightly but we still managed to provide a welcome surprise to the local community.

For our first event (17th Dec)  we had our professional musicians play a set of Christmas Carols from outside the front of the South Hill Centre building. They were accompanied by a handful of their (usually 100 strong) amateur choir, who usually rehearse at the Centre. The music carried around the neighbourhood and reached a wide number of local streets. At the same time invitations to a Christmas Eve event were posted through over 300 doors – along with information around support that could be offered to the lonely, isolated and vulnerable by the team at South Hill Centre.

On Christmas Eve, the larger event (which included the full choir) had to be scaled back with just the professional singers performing again from the front of the building. Following the previous weeks publicity, neighbours doors were opened and people started to gather in households up and down the neighbouring streets (note:- social distance was monitored and managed at all times). Over 30 households joined in with the singing from their doorsteps, bringing a lovely start to the Christmas period and uplifting everyone as we reflected on the Joyful message that Christmas really brings.
